Trocaire College is a private Catholic junior college in Buffalo, New York. Founded in 1958 by the Sisters of Mercy, Trocaire College offers associate and bachelor's degree programs as well as one-year certificate programs and workforce development training in healthcare, business, hospitality and technology.[1] It is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Universities[2][3] and is chartered by the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York.[4] It has an extension site located in Williamsville, New York. Total enrollment across both campuses is approximately 1300 students. In partnership with ed2go Trocaire College provides a number of courses online.[5]
Academics
Trocaire College offers certificate programs, Associate's degree programs, as well as Bachelor's degree programs. In addition to healthcare oriented fields such as Nursing, Healthcare Informatics, Surgical Technology and Radiologic Technology, students can major in other career-oriented fields, including Hospitality Management and Human Resource Management. The college is home to the oldest private Associate's Degree in Nursing program in western New York, as well as the region's oldest evening nursing program.
Trocaire College has a comprehensive partnership with Medaille College enabling its students to progress on its programmes.[6]
History
Founded in 1958 by the Sisters of Mercy, as Sancta Maria College, training women of the order. In 1965 it accepted in laywomen and in 1972 it accepted in male students. In 1967 the college was renamed Trocaire College, the word Trocaire means Mercy in the Irish Language, which recognises the Irish heritage of many of the Sisters of Mercy, who were founded in Ireland.[7]
