Summit Ski Area is a small ski area located on Mount Hood, alongside the Mount Hood Highway (U.S. Route 26) in Government Camp, Oregon. Built in 1927, it is the oldest ski area in the Pacific Northwest. In addition to downhill skiing and snowboarding, Summit also offers snow tubing and Nordic trails.[1] The resort has a chairlift called "Homestead Lift" [2] and a rope tow. As of 2018, R.L.K and Company, who own Timberline Lodge, purchased Summit Ski Area for an unknown sum of money.
Summit serves as an area for beginner skiers and riders, with green-circle (easy) and blue-square (intermediate) terrain. The ski area is located next to the Government Camp Rest Area.
As of 2019, a Master Development Plan has been submitted to the Forest Service, detailing the proposed upgrades to the ski area, including a gondola that connects to Timberline Lodge and an upgraded boundary area and lift.
