Shridhar Sathe

Shridhar Sathe (October 30, 1950 – April 4, 2019) was an Indian-born American scientist who was professor of food science at Florida State University who is widely cited as an authority on the role of proteins in food allergy science.[1] His research program was focused on identifying tree nut allergy proteins, developing antibody-based enzyme linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs) for their detection and quantification, and identifying and characterizing epitopes in tree nut allergenic proteins.[2] Dr. Sathe served on USDA NRICGP review panels, several national committees of the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), and was a frequently sought reviewer by many scientific journals in food science and technology and publishing companies. He was an elected fellow of the IFT. He served on the editorial boards of Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry, Journal of Food Biochemistry, LWT-Food Science and Technology, Plant Foods for Human Nutrition, and Korean Food Science and Biotechnology.[3]

Background

He obtained his Bachelor’s in Chemistry, a Bachelor’s in Food Technology, and a Master’s in Food Technology University of Bombay. He received his PhD from Utah State University. He served as a postdoc at University of Arizona, and Purdue University. He joined FSU in 1988.

Legacy

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Sandhya, and a daughter, Sonal. Sonal is completing a PhD in the department of human nutrition, foods, and exercise at Virginia Tech.
