Roland and Rattfink is a series of animated shorts produced and released from 1968 to 1971. The main characters also made several guest appearances on The Pink Panther animated series. The series was produced by David H. DePatie and Friz Freleng.[1]
Plot
The cartoons concerned blond, good-looking, pacifist Roland and the many attempts by the evil, mustachioed Rattfink to ruin his good time.[1]
Roland and Rattfink were both voiced by Lennie Weinrib (except in "The Deadwood Thunderball" where they were voiced by John Byner and Dave Barry).[1]
Hurts and Flowers (one long, running joke about Rattfink destroying Roland's daisies) concluded with Rattfink getting killed and Roland leaving daisies on his grave. When Roland walked away, Rattfink's ghost rose from the grave to throw the flowers at him. Seventeen cartoons were produced.[2]

Remakes
Much like a number of DFE-produced cartoon shorts, some of the Roland and Rattfink cartoons were remakes of Looney Tunes cartoons from the 1950s and 1960s (which featured either Daffy Duck or Yosemite Sam as the villain, a role later reprised by Rattfiink in this series), which are listed below:
- "Trick and Retreat" was remade after "Horse Hare" (1960)
- "War and Pieces" was remade after "Captain Hareblower" (1954)
- "Say Cheese, Please" was remade after "A Star is Bored" (1956)
- "A Taste of Money" was remade after "Honey's Money" (1962) as well as its predecessor, "His Bitter Half" (1950)
- "The Deadwood Thunderball" features a similar train robbery gag to "Wild and Woolly Hare" (1959)
Home video
The series was released January 27, 2009 on DVD from MGM Home Entertainment/20th Century Fox Home Entertainment as a part of The Pink Panther Classic Cartoon Collection. The individual shorts were released on DVD and Blu-Ray on June 28, 2016 by Kino Lorber, and are also available to stream on Hulu.
