Roberto Musci (March 27, 1956 in Milan, Italy) is an Italian music composer, performer, saxophonist, guitar player and video maker. From 1974 to 1985 he travelled around the world to study African, Indian, and Near & Far Eastern music, make field recordings and collect musical instruments. He combined non-European music, recorded "on field" and played with ethnic musical instruments, with contemporary music, with musical techniques derived from plunderphonics and musique concrète to create a personal musical language with which he tells stories and feelings related to his travels.

Biography

Roberto Musci was born in Milan on March 27, 1956, he studied sax and guitar with private teachers. From the age of 16 he played with various Italian musicians in semi-professional groups (including Claudio Perrone on guitar ,Cecilia Chailly on harp and Cosimo Gigante on piano). From 1976 to 1982 he traveled to the Middle and Far East and Africa to study and record ethnic music.He attended traditional music courses at the Karnataka College of Percussion (India), the Madras Conservatory (India) and the Yogyakarta Conservatory (Indonesia) and the Cairo Conservatory. In 1982 he founded the record label "Raw Material" for which he released his first LP "The Loa of music" where he combines ethnic music ( recorded "on fields" and played ), western electronic music and acoustic guitar and traditional Vever Voodoo paintings by avant-garde painter Luigi Camporelli ( inside Lp paintings ). From 1984 to 1997 he played with Giovanni Venosta recording Lps and Cds for different labels and composing soundtracks for films and video installations. From 1987 to 1997 he was a member and co-founder of the recording and production and audio and video post production studio "Fx Studio" with Walter Prati, Saverio Angiolini and Marco "Bill" Vecchi. From 1995 to 1999 he worked with Claudio Gabbiani for live concerts for silent movies. In 1997 till today he creates "The Loa Studios" where he records Lps and Cds and creates videos for music videos and interactive videos for shows.

Since 1983 he has recorded LPs and CDs for different European , American and Canadians labels, including: Raw Material[1] Victò,[2] Lowlands, Gonzo Multimedia,[3] Leaves,[4] Island Records, Music from Memory, Soave[5],Oxmose,[6] and Recommended Records. He composed and played music for films, videos commercial spots, dance, live soundtracks for silent movies, music for poems and theater. The LP "Water messages on desert sand" was Grammy-nominated in the UK in 1987.

  • At the 32nd Bourges International Festival[37][38] he performed the piece "Music for Labyrinths" for voice & electronics at Maison de la Culture ICEM Serie : Federation Italy 01/06/2002
