Perameles is a genus of marsupials of the order Peramelemorphia.
Perameles, or ‘pouched badger’, is a hybrid word, from the Greek pera (πήρα, ‘pouch, bag’) and the Latin mēles (‘marten, badger’).[1]
They are referred to as long-nosed bandicoots.[2][3]
The extant and recently extinct species are

- Eastern barred bandicoot (P. gunnii)
- Long-nosed bandicoot (P. nasuta)
