Molecular Systems Biology is a peer-reviewed open-access scientific journal covering systems biology at the molecular level (examples include: genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, microbial systems, the integration of cell signaling and regulatory networks), synthetic biology, and systems medicine.[1] It was established in 2005 and published by the Nature Publishing Group on behalf of the European Molecular Biology Organization. As of December 2013, it is published by EMBO Press.[2]
According to the Journal Citation Reports, the journal had a 2019 impact factor of 8.991.[3]
The Editorial Process
Molecular Systems Biology ensures a rapid publishing process. Completely edited papers can be published in approximately 10 days after being accepted. The review process allows editors to indicate what he or she wishes to be revised, along with providing justification. Additionally, editors have the ability to request certain referees to remark their work.[1]
The editorial process also includes a flexible style of formatting, cross-referee interactions that allow for maximum reviewing, and a single round of revision. Molecular Systems Biology publishes over 90% of the revisions received. Additionally, the editors are approachable; authors of papers can assess the manuscripts with the editors throughout the review process.[1]
