Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) persons in Turkmenistan face legal challenges not experienced by non-LGBT residents. Male homosexuality is illegal in Turkmenistan and is punished by imprisonment for a term of up to two years.[1]

Turkmenistan is one of just two post-Soviet states in which male homosexual activity remains criminalised, along with Uzbekistan.

Section 135: Homosexual acts

"(1) Homosexual acts, i.e. sexual intercourse between men, shall be punished with a term of imprisonment of up to two years."[1]
