Edward K. Delaney was a mayor of St. Paul, Minnesota during the years 1948-1952. He is one of the many Irish-American political figures in Minnesota politics.
Delaney's failure to win re-election after two terms may have resulted from a backlash against growth of public housing in the city. In the book St. Paul's Architecture: A History, Hess and Larsen wrote, "But when the [Housing Redevelopment Authority] attempted to acquire land for low-income housing in more developed areas, neighborhood opposition became so strident that it reverberated throughout the mayoral campaign of 1952, helping defeat the two-term incumbent Edward K. Delaney, an unabashed supporter of public housing."[1]
