Daily Air Corporation (Chinese: 德安航空; pinyin: Déān Hángkōng) is an airline with its headquarters in Songshan District, Taipei, Taiwan.[1] It operates scheduled passenger services to offshore islands from Taiwan, including Penghu, Green Island and Orchid Island, as well as helicopter contract services and charters. Its main base is Taipei Songshan Airport, with hubs at Kaohsiung International Airport and Taitung Airport.[2]

History

The airline was established in 1992 and started operations as a Bell 412 helicopter operator. Scheduled services using fixed wing Dornier aircraft began on 8 June 2005. The airline is owned by Sincere and Durban Shopping Mall, Miramar Entertainment Park, DC Development (Construction) Group, Mayer Steel Pipe, Tze Shin Transportation and Terminal and Far Eastern Air Transport (5%). It has 100 employees, as of March 2007.[2] Daily Air operates flights primarily to domestic destinations in Taiwan.

Subsidy fraud investigation

In 2018 Daily Air administration figures, including owner of Durban Development and former chairman of Daily Air, Huang Chun-fa, and Lai Yue-xing, general manager of Miramar, were investigated regarding subsidy application fraud over a 10-year period dating back to 2005 involving “more than $500 million” in subsidies. According to a report in the China Times: “Daily Air was suspected of over-reporting expenses and declaring false losses when applying to the Civil Aviation Administration for subsidies. The Civil Aviation Administration sent an auditor to the airport maintenance facility to check the application, and did not find the items listed in the subsidy application.”

The over-reported costs allegedly included “maintenance costs, and special private expenses”. After questioning, Huang Chun-fa and Lai Yue-xing were released on bail of NT$3 million and NT$1 million respectively.[3]
