  • January: In the Donald Duck story Wintertime Wager Donald's cousin Gladstone Gander makes his debut.

  • March 18: Freddie Langeler, Dutch comics artist (Pietje Pluk en Kootje Kwak, Bobby den Speurder, Barendje Kwik, Bello Blafmeier), dies at age 49.[16]
  • March 24: Wally Wallgren, American comics artist (Inbad the Sailor, Tired Timothy, Helpful Hints, Hoosegow Herman), dies at age 65.[17]
