Chapelton railway station serves the hamlet of Chapelton, part of the civil parish of Tawstock in the English county of Devon. It is a rural station on the Tarka Line 34.75 miles (56 km) north west of Exeter on the way to Barnstaple. Chapelton was the least used station in Devon in the 2019/20 reporting year.

History

The North Devon Railway was opened on 1 August 1854 but no passenger facilities were provided at Chapelton until 1857. This temporary station was closed in 1860^[1] and the present station was finally opened on 1 March 1875.^[2]

Services

Two southbound and two northbound trains, four on Sundays on the Barnstaple to St James Park service are scheduled to stop at Chapelton on request – this means that passengers alighting here must tell the conductor that they wish to do so, and those waiting to join must signal clearly to the driver as the train approaches. Trains connect with main line services at Exeter St Davids.
