Patrick J. Walsh (1873 – September 21, 1946) was appointed Acting Fire Commissioner of the City of New York by Mayor Fiorello H. La Guardia on May 8, 1941, and was subsequently appointed the 14th Fire Commissioner of the City of New York by Mayor LaGuardia two days later. He served in that position until the end of the LaGuardia Administration on December 31, 1945.[1] He died on September 22, 1946 at the West Hill Sanitarium.[2]

With a pledge to do better than his best. Acting Chief Patrick Walsh took the oath of office as Commissioner of the Fire Department at City Hall yesterday. Mayor La Guardia, swearing in the new Commissioner, simply remarked:

Patrick J. Walsh, former fire chief and Commissioner, died yesterday at the West Hill Sanitarium, Fieldston Road and 252d Street, the Bronx, after an illness of six weeks. His age was 73. He resided at 99 Joralemon Street, Brooklyn.
