Major (Majuri in Finnish) is a military officer's rank (OF3) in Sweden and Finland, senior to Kapten and junior to Överstelöjtnant. >

Finland

During peacetime, a Majuri is a staff officer or battalion commander. The rank requires the completion of a senior staff officer course.[1] It is also possible for reservists to obtain the reserve rank of Majuri. This is however, quite rare and requires active participation in national defence.

Sweden

The Majors serves as commanding officer or second-in-command of a battalions. As a staff officer, the Majors are section heads, heads of function or qualified officer. The Major can also serve at schools in various leadership, teaching and staff positions. The Majors belong to skill levels B (Intermediate), C (Advanced) or D (Expert).[2]
