The Democratic Progressive Party (Spanish: Partido Demócrata Progresista) is a liberal provincial political party in Santa Fe Province, Argentina.

History

It was founded by Lisandro de la Torre (among others) at the Savoy Hotel in Buenos Aires on December 14, 1914. One of its founders was the academic Dr. Carlos Ibarguren.

In the 1973 presidential election, the PDP joined the Federalist People's Alliance, with the formula Francisco Manrique - Rafael Martínez Raymonda, the last progressive democrat, resulting in third with 1,800,000 votes.

In the 1983 election, the Democratic Progressive Party made an alliance with the Socialist Democratic Party by proposing the Formula Martínez Raymonda - René Balestra, obtaining 0.32% of the vote, without obtaining parliamentary representation.

In the 1989 general election, the PDP formed an electoral alliance with the Union of the Democratic Centre, bringing as a candidate for president Álvaro Alsogaray of the UCD and as vice-president Alberto Natale, for the PDP. The alliance came third, with 6.8% of the vote, with PDP, Alberto Natale and Rafael Martínez Raymonda elected.

In the 1995 presidential election, it did not present or support any formulas, maintaining its presence in Santa Fe Province.

In the 1999 presidential election it supported the winning formula of Alianza (Fernando de la Rúa-Carlos Álvarez), maintaining its electoral position in Santa Fe and winning seats in the Chamber of Deputies.

In the 2003 presidential election, the PDP did not present or support any candidate, nor hold national positions, for the first time since 1983.

As of 2007, it was a member of the national Recrear electoral alliance led by Ricardo López Murphy and the Republican Proposal (PRO) alliance which backed López Murphy for the presidency in 2007.

For the 2011 general election, it entered the Union for Social Development (UDESO), an electoral alliance led by Ricardo Alfonsín.

Regarding the Santa Fe Province, it was part of an electoral alliance, called the Progressive, Civic and Social Front, as an opposition to the Peronist Front for Victory.

Since 2015, it has been a member of Cambiemos and supported Mauricio Macri in 2015 and 2019.
