The Centre hospitalier universitaire Sainte-Justine (CHU Sainte-Justine) is the largest mother and child centre in Canada and one of the four most important pediatric centres in North America. This university health centre is affiliated with the Université de Montréal, located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Founded in 1907 by Justine Lacoste-Beaubien, the CHU Sainte-Justine is the largest pediatric health centre in Canada. With its 550 beds, among which 30 are from the intensive care unit, it receives 19,000 inpatients yearly. The centre employs 520 doctors and 4500 medical students and residents.[1]

Sainte-Justine officially became a university health centre in 1995 and it has, since then, welcomed around 2500 medical students each year.

Since 2000, the Centre de réadaptation Marie-Enfant, the only pediatric rehabilitation centre in Quebec, which counts 95 beds, is affiliated with the CHU Sainte-Justine.

The CHU Sainte-Justine is a health centre in itself. The CHU Sainte-Justine also includes an internationally renowned research centre. It celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2007.

CHU Sainte-Justine has undergone a major expansion in 2018. The new buildings are being built under the project of "Grandir en Santé". This extension has increased the hospital centre by 60%.

CHU Sainte-Justine is the provincial centre for pediatric liver transplantation, pediatric craniofacial surgery, and pediatric burn surgery. Tertiary and quaternary care in paediatrics and obstetrics includes all specialties in pediatric surgery, including cardiac, vascular and neurosurgery; all pediatric specialties, organ transplantation, oncology, hematology and child psychiatry.

CHU Sainte-Justine is a Level 1 pediatric trauma center, receiving children from all over Quebec. It is also the provincial reference center for the detection of deafness, the management of chronic pain and developmental disorders in children.[2]

CHU Sainte-Justine has unique expertise in genetics, molecular biology and clinical pharmacology allowing personalized medicine for mothers and children.
